| History Of Acacia Lodge 248 | |||||
| The History of Acacia began with desire and dreams of several members of the PRINCE HALL MASONIC order in the city of NEW ORLEANS.Such among those men were the names of Joseph Brumfield,Henry Williams,and Fredrick Woods. On September 18,1960,24 men were initiated,passed and raised to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason. Acacia was now formed under dispensation with Fredrick Woods serving as its Worshipful Master.During the summer of 1961 at the Grand Lodge session,Acacia was made a new member of the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of the State of Louisiana.Acacia was awarded the number of 248 an was scheduled to meet on the third Sunday of each month. Brother William Anderson became the first brother to be initiated,passed,and raised under the banner Acacia#248. Brother Oscar W. Page was the first brother to be called home by the G.A.O.T.U. In the 1970"s Acacia saw it"s own share of problems, mainly with the slippage of membership.During these rough times it should be noted that the lodge survived solely on the backs an labor of a few members, namely Past Master Charles Sullivan, Past Master James Bulter, Brother Victor Soulaire and Brother Johnny Oliver.However toward the middle of the decade life was ressurected in Acacia with a stock of new members. In 1977 Acacia attended its first church sit-in at John Divine BC and it"s first Easter egg hunt. It was under the guard of Past Master Kenneth Hall in 1980 that the lodge officially began meeting on the fourth Tuesday. Through out the years Acacia has continued to grow an become stronger. It has progressed to be one of the strongest lodges within its district as well as the state. Acacia has seen several of its members achieve great levels in masonry. Acacia has produced 1 Grand Lodge Officer(Past Master Fredrick Bell) 1 Grand Chapter Officer,OES(Past Master Joseph Lewis), along with 5 members becoming heads of other houses within masonry. Acacia entered the 21st century under the guidance of Worshipful Master Gary Holiday,and continued to stride toward excellence. MAY GOD ALWAYS BLESS ACACIA. |
